The Club is continuing its Cadet Training Scheme, with the aim of making the facilities of the club available to a number of younger people at a much reduced cost, to promote the sport of gliding amongst the young.

It is hoped that cadets will progress to going solo, and go on to become full members of the club (although this is not a precondition of participation in the scheme).

Selection Membership is available for up to 4 cadets, and lasts for one year starting from acceptance. The scheme is due to start in about August of each year.

Once solo, cadets soon progress to flying the K8

Application forms are available from the club, and should be returned by the specified date. The guidelines and costs are presently under review, but more information is available on request.

For further information, please contact the Club Secretary.

The number of lessons required before a student is ready to fly solo varies greatly. The three main factors which influence this are age, ability and continuity of training.

Lessons are usually arranged as two consecutive flights, as this provides the maximum benefit.

The mimimum age to fly a glider solo is 16 years.
