Gliding can be both an exhilarating and a peaceful sport, always challenging and sometimes unexpected - but there is nothing that can match the thrill of soaring over the countryside, in a never ending world of new experiences.

Yes we do fly all year round!

If you are looking to take up the sport or you are already a glider pilot, The Oxford Gliding Club can offer everything you may require, from basic training and post solo training to advanced cross country tuition. We have a fleet of modern gliders, ranging from two K13 dual controlled basic trainers to a glass fibre high performance two seater glider, which is primarily used in the tuition of cross country soaring. We also have club single seaters, starting with two Ka8's which are used by early solo pilots, who will later progress to an Astir CS, which is the higher performance glass fibre glider.

To operate a gliding site requires a certain amount of help and co-operation, and therefore club members are expected to help unpack the hangar in the morning and help get all the ground equipment ready for the day, and likewise repack the hangar at the end of the day. When you become a member, you will soon learn all there is to know about the day to day operating procedures of an active airfield.

As an affiliated member of the British Gliding Association, we are proud to say that we operate above national safety standards and all our Instructors meet approved requirements. You are welcome to come along and see us in action on any weekend throughout the year - bring the family and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the club.

There are various ways of getting a glider into the air, at the Oxford Gliding club we use a winch.

The main advantage of this is the cost - a fraction of the cost of an aerotow. This means overall your costs are kept to a minimum.

After flying join us in the clubhouse and have the opportunity to relive those 'How I done it' stories and on those balmy summer evenings enjoy a barbecue and the odd party or two.
